#22: The Build-Up Weekly
*Welcome to the 22nd edition of The Build-Up, where we deliver weekly insights and inspiration for dentists on every stage of the private practice journey. If this email was forwarded to you, you can click here to subscribe.
Dear friends and colleagues,
I’m back after a spectacular journey in Alaska.
We had incredible weather (apparently it was storming the week prior to our visit) and it was great to explore unfamiliar landscapes. We saw bears, salmon (so much salmon), bald eagles, whales, and more. It was great to relax and turn off my phone.

It’s also good to be back.
Here’s what I have lined up for this week’s newsletter:
4 Reasons to Say Hello at CDA! Booth #132
Integrity Practice Sales on Inc5000 List!
Honesty as Morality or Policy?
Let’s get started!
4 Reasons to Say Hello at Booth #132
If you’re going to be at CDA San Jose this year, please make a point of stopping by. Here are four reasons to do so.
We have an odd booth placement this year, so you may not accidentally wander by. So make it a point to visit!
It’s the last CDA North, so let’s make the most of it!
We’ll be giving away a pair of Airpods - come sign up!
Finally, I’ll be there with a great team. If the steller personalities of Scott, Jose, Nelson, and David can’t pull you in, then, well…I’ll be there as well.
Whether you’re thinking about buying a practice, selling a practice next year, or selling in 10 years, we’d love to meet you!
We don’t have anything quite as fun as the dental-financial-guru Tim McNeely’s book launch party, but I expect to still have a fun time seeing friends old and new!
And speaking of that book launch party, the photos were just released, so I figured we should share one of our very own Ken Skeate alongside Tim.

Integrity Practice Sales on the Inc 5000 List!
While I was in Alaska, Integrity Practice Sales was officially added to the 2023 Inc 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the US!
This is an honor, and - to be honest - it’s also a paid advertising opportunity.
You have to apply and pay a small fee. BUT - you also have to be growing (they have you submit your tax returns).
So even though this is an advertising (and great SEO) opportunity, it also genuinely reflects the incredible work that our team at IPS has put into growth and service.
I’m proud of this team and the work we’ve accomplished!
Honesty as Morality vs as Policy
The ever-insightful Morgan Housel highlighted something in his most recent blog post that I thought was worth sharing.
Charlie Munger once pointed out that Benjamin Franklin didn’t say honesty is the best morals – he said it’s the best policy. It’s what’s going to help you, and put you in the best position, earning you the most money, in the long run.
There’s a corollary there with kindness.
There are two reasons to be kind to everyone. One is moral, the other is selfish. Morally, you should do it because you’re empathetic. Selfishly, you should do it because it’s easy to underestimate how many people you may eventually rely on to help you, and you’ll only gain their cooperation if you remain in their good graces.
And with that, I hope you enjoyed the 22nd edition of The Build-Up Weekly.
Come say hello at CDA!
With best wishes to you and your families,
Trevor Kimball, PhD

It’s worth having a conversation no matter your current transition plans. You never know what you’ll discover together.
