Dear friends and colleagues,

Happy Friday! Summer is in full swing, and I hope you’re all enjoying some sunshine.

Here’s what I have lined up for this week’s newsletter:

  • 🗓️ Hygiene Exams with Less Stress

  • 🗂️ Tax Advantages, reason #1534 to own a business

Let’s get started!

🗓️ Hygiene Exams - There’s A Better Way

It’s a busy day at the office. 9:55 am.

There’s a patient in hygiene that needs an exam.

Your hygienist’s 10 am patient just arrived.

And you’re just starting to place a composite that took forever to get perfectly isolated.

Sound familiar?

Enter the solution - the 'mid hygiene check'.

Many of you may already be doing this - but I still talk to doctors all the time who are not (and their schedules are suffering from it).

The MID hygiene check is aimed at harmonizing the schedules of hygienists, doctors, and assistants. This concept places the hygiene check on the doctor's timeline, rather than the reverse.

The result is an improved flow of appointments and reduced stress for the entire dental team.

So, how does it work?

Instead of showing up at the beginning or end of the hygiene patient’s appointment, the best time to show up is in the window that starts 15 minutes after the appointment and ends 15 minutes before the end of the appointment.

If you have 60 minutes appointments, that gives you a 30-minute window to show up.

This way, you can plan the exam around YOUR time.

Find a natural pause point with whatever you’re doing, and then let the patient’s jaw rest while you pop over to the hygiene room.

It’s much easier to be ‘on time’ when there is a 30-minute window.

So when time is of the essence, the 'mid hygiene check' makes the entire schedule run more smoothly and efficiently.

Even amidst the busiest schedules, a well-structured system like this can lead to more harmony and efficiency in your practice.

🗂️ Business Owner Tax Advantages

Buying a practice is a big decision.

There are many factors to consider.

One factor that isn’t always appreciated upfront is just how much money practice owners can save on their taxes.

The government wants to incentivize entrepreneurship, and the tax code is very favorable to those who own practices.

Here’s a short Twitter thread on some of those advantages.

And with that, I hope you enjoyed the 17th edition of The Build-Up Weekly.
